The purpose of the Scottish Cave Rescue Organisation (SCRO) is to provide a service to search for and to rescue persons and animals from any underground location (caves, rock fissures and disused mines, except coal mines) in Scotland or any other part of the United Kingdom, to secure funds and pursue the following three activities to facilitate such a service:
- To implement a relevant and effective training programme for personnel.
- Liaise with other emergency services.
- Promote general awareness of and improve the standards of care and safety required in the pursuit of speleology and associated activities.
Established in 1966, SCRO has been operating under the current Constitution since 1988 and became a Scottish Charitable Trust (Scottish Charity Number SC002433) in May 1989.
